Australian retail struggle   The swift exit of two CEOs and a chairman in the past couple of months have investors questioning strategy and governance at Myer, Santos and Woolworths. Lianhua Supermarket sells stakes   Yonghui Superstores will become the second-biggest shareholder of Shanghai’s supermarket chain Lianhua by buying a 21.17% stake. Just recently major pan-Asian retailer Dairy Farm has acquired a 19.99% stake in Yonghui for US$ 915 million. ▪
Aldi plans major expansion   The German discounter has announced plans for 9 store openings in the greater London area as well as the creation of over 500 new jobs. The Aldi and Lidl phenomenon keeps analysts in the UK busy. Here are 10 reasons why the German discounters differ from Kwik Save.  ▪
Poundland under scrutiny   The British variety store chain may have to sell up to 80 stores to win approval from the competition watchdog for its GBP 55 million takeover of 99p Stores. The takeover will be referred for an in-depth investigation “unless acceptable undertakings are offered” (paywall). ▪
Asos teams up with Vevo   British fashion e-tailer Asos is pushing further into music by signing a partnership with music video service Vevo, hoping to tap into the lucrative millennials market. ▪

Amazon gets green light for drone trial   The e-commerce powerhouse has won approval from US federal regulators to test a delivery drone outdoors, less than a month after the company blasted regulators for being slow to approve commercial drone testing. ▪

Payment security is a major concern   Retailers are being urged to reassure online shoppers that their information is in safe hands when they start browsing a site, after new research named security as a top concern ▪
Instore habits change   According to the new “Reality of Retail” report from retail marketing firm InReality, three in four shoppers use a mobile device when inside the stores to shop. ▪
