Joining forces ▪ After weeks of exclusive talks, Carrefour and Système U have announced the signing of a five-year purchasing agreement. Carrefour has also partnered with Google to boost its online business in France. Groceries of the French retailer will be available on the US search engine's shopping platform.

Tackling financial issues ▪ French supermarket company Casino has announced an EUR 1.5 billion asset sales plan by early 2019 to reduce its heavy debt burden. Local service ▪ The Future Group, India’s largest retailer, looks to expand its reach into consumers’ homes and is set to launch a hyper-local grocery delivery. The service, which starts with the supply of milk, eggs and bread, will initially be available in metro cities, and later will be expanded.

Preparations to premier ▪ After almost six years of figuring out the market conditions, Ikea is now pulling out all stops to expand in India. The Swedish furniture retailer will open its first store in Asia’s third-largest economy next month with a localised food offering, including biryani, samosas and veggie hotdogs.

Meat lookalikes ▪ Catering to consumers’ changing eating habits, Britain's Sainsbury’s announced its new vegan-friendly range , which looks like meat, would go on sale next month.
